Hello Canaan Children’s Ministry Families! Happy Advent Season to All! Please read on for an important Children’s Ministry announcement regarding this Sunday…

This Sunday, December 11 (10am to 12noon), is our church’s special 2 hours All Church Worship Service (located in Worship Hall 1) to celebrate sacraments and Christmas. While children of all ages are welcome at the All Church Worship service, feel free to send your children (1^st grade and younger) to one of the classes listed below if you think they will enjoy that more.

Parenting Tip from National Center for Biblical Parenting

The Real Meaning of Christmas

With so much advertising and emphasis on presents, programs, and parties, take some time to teach your children about the real meaning of Christmas. It’s so easy to get distracted by the celebration that one discussion or Christmas program isn’t enough to help your children catch the meaning and significance of what Christmas is really all about. Here are some suggestions.

Have a daily or weekly reminder of the Christmas story. Use an advent calendar or read through the Christmas story in the next few weeks.

Tell children what the first Christmas was really like. Did you know that a manger is a cow’s eating dish? How far is it from Nazareth to Bethlehem anyway? That would be like walking all the way from our home to _____. What was an Inn like? What were the shepherds doing out with the sheep at night? Did you know that the Bible doesn’t say that there were three wise men? Maybe there were ten. Help children think about the story differently than they have before.

Write to a missionary family and find out how they are celebrating Christmas. Talk to your children about how cultures have different traditions but the real meaning of Christmas is the same.

And talk about God’s gift of salvation. Why did God start Christmas in the first place? How does his gift change who we are? Keep in mind that this may be time that your child dedicates himself or herself to the Lord in a new and special way.

Christmas is a special time where memories are created that last a lifetime. Take some time to plan your Christmas season carefully to make sure the things you do and say have lasting value.

Hello Canaan Children’s Ministry Families! Here are some Children’s Ministry announcements…

1) Operation Christmas Child 2011 – 1 more week! 1 more week!

1 more week to pack a shoebox to share with a needy child!
Pick up a shoebox this Sunday!
Check out the Operation Christmas Child page on this blog for information on how your child and family can pack a shoebox filled with goodies to send to a needy child…I hope every family will get involved in this very meaningful service project.
Please return all packed shoeboxes to church next Sunday, 11/20.
Please include a $7 check – payable to “Samaritan’s Purse” and write “OCC” in memo line.

2) Orientation and Training dates for Children’s Ministry coworkers: Helpers training on 11/13 (Sunday; 1pm-2:30pm; Room 117) – POSTPONED; new date TBD.

3) Next Sunday, November 20 – CTCC Congregational Meeting (11:30am to 12:30pm) – Youth Group will help with Children’s Ministry Sunday School classes

Children will enjoy Thanksgiving Craft time in their Sunday School class lead by teams of our church’s high school youth members – this will give all Children’s Ministry adult coworkers the opportunity to attend the congregational meeting.

Children’s Ministry Reminders for October 16, 2011

Hello Canaan Children’s Ministry Families!

Happy Friday! I hope that you and your kids are getting more use to our church’s new schedule on Sundays. It’s a blessing to have so many kids attend Worship and Sunday School the past 2 Sundays. If you have any questions about classrooms or programs, please contact me (Nicole Lu, Children’s Ministry Director; nicole.lu@ecanaan.org).

Please note the following:

A) Children who attend Little Worship or Children’s Worship 1 or 2 during the 10am to 11:15am program time are given a little time to enjoy a small home-brought snack.

Please send a small mess-free snack and water bottle with your child, if you think your child will need it. Be sure to label bag or bottles with your child’s name.
Please remind your kids that due to possible food allergies, please do not share snacks with friends.

B) Children should wear name tags to all CM classes – name tags are located in the CM Welcome Area. There will be baskets in each CM Sunday School classroom to collect them.

C) Be sure your child uses the restroom before entering CM classes.

It’s finally here! This Sunday, October 2nd, our church will begin new program times.

Please note the following:

A) Children should wear name tags to all CM classes – nametags are located in the CM Welcome Area. There will be baskets in each CM room to collect them.

B) Be sure your child uses the restroom before entering CM classes.

C) Feel free to send a no-mess snack AND water bottle with your child to enjoy during the first session. Kids in Little Worship, Children’s Worship 1, and Children’s Worship 2 will be given a little break/snack time before 11:15. You may even want to prepare a “Church Bag” for your child and have your child stock it on Saturday night with his/her Bible, offering, snack, and water bottle.
